The Greenbrier welcomes four golf legends

Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Lee Trevino came together to be at the groundbreaking Friday morning.
These four were the brains behind designing and carrying out the plan for the Greenbrier’s newest golf course, the  Oakhurst Championship Course.

This course will be the first time these four Hall of Fame golfers have collaborated on such a project.
It will span more than 8,000 yards on a mountaintop overlooking the oldest golf course in America, the Oakhurst Links.

“You know, until we got on to it I thought this was going to be a pretty tough job but I don’t think it’s going to be too bad now. I think it’s an opportunity to develop a pretty darn nice golf course with some fantastic scenery,” says Jack Nicklaus of the new course.

Nicklaus wasn’t the only player to voice his excitement. All four said that they’re looking forward to the finished product, also mentioning that during the design process, their minds were not only on the professional golfers.
Gary Player says, “we’re not forgetting that the most important people in golf are the members and you people, not professional golf so we’re going to try to make it playable we’re going to try to make a golf course for all seasons.”

The course will be at the forefront of a new neighborhood for the Sporting Club called Oakhurst, in which Mr. Justice plans to add restaurants, a pool, and a ski facility.
