Today officers don’t just face threats out in the field, but online as well.


As law enforcement increases its presence on social media, they also have to deal with the threats that come with it.
Threats are taken very seriously, however authorities have to decide whether the threat is credible and if it can be carried out immediately.They have to be careful not to violate a person’s first amendment right to freedom of speech.Wyoming County Prosecutor Mike Cochrane said despite the threats, you have to move on.
Mike Cochrane said: “I have been threatened. I take it as anybody would. Your leary of it, but you can’t live in fear.”Despite the threats, Cochrane says that most of the messages they receive on social media are positive.
