10:30 a.m. Dec. 9, 2016 UPDATE:
A man who was hit by a tractor-trailer on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 later died of his injuries. According to deputies with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, Richard Carl Owens was hit by the truck as it was pulling back onto the road. Witnesses said Owens was standing in front of the log truck by the grill at the time, in a location where the driver was not able to see him.
According to a release, Owens was taken to Raleigh General Hospital where he was taken into surgery. Investigators said he died while he was in surgery.
ORIGINAL STORY: Deputies were called to the scene of an accident in Raleigh County on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016. At around 2 p.m. a man was hit by a log truck near the intersection of Ragland and Stanaford Roads.
According to officials, the driver of the truck stopped for directions. He was pulling back onto the road when the victim apparently ran in front of the tractor-trailer. One witness said the man may have been trying to help. There is no word on the victim’s name or condition at this time.
The incident is still under investigation by the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department. There is no word on whether or not any charges will be filed in the case.
