10:15 a.m. Nov. 20, 2015 UPDATE:
Deputies with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office have released the identity of the woman who was killed in an accident on Route 3 Thursday morning. Jacquelyn Sample, 36, of Virginia was hit by a car while she was walking in the middle of the road. The driver of the vehicle was a nurse and stopped to help the victim until emergency responders arrived. Ms. Sample was taken to Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
No charges are expected to be filed in the case. The incident is still under investigation by the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.
10 a.m. Nov. 19, 2015 UPDATE:
Raleigh County Sheriff’s deputies announced today that that the pedestrian hit in the accident on Route 3 has died.
Apparently, the woman was walking in the middle of the road when she was struck. The driver of the vehicle is a nurse and immediately administered medical care until emergency officials arrived. The woman was pronounced dead at BARH.
According to a press release from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s department the driver did nothing wrong, the accident was unavoidable.The driver will not be charged. The incident remains under investigation.
The woman’s name is expected to be released tomorrow morning.
ORIGINAL STORY: Officials responded to Hinton Road (Route 3) in the Shady Spring area Thursday, Nov. 19, after a pedestrian was reportedly hit. Crews were dispatched just before 6:45 a.m., emergency officials said.
The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department responded, along with Ghent EMS and Fire Department. Jan-Care Ambulance was also on scene.
