UPDATE: Victims in fatal I-64 accident identified


10 a.m. Oct. 15, 2015 UPDATE:

State Troopers have released the names of the victims in a deadly accident that happened on Wednesday night.  The crash happened in the eastbound lanes of I-64 on Sandstone Mountain in Raleigh County at 6 p.m. 

Wesley Lester, 44, and Brenda Lester, 45, both of Brenton, WV were in a car that apparently rear ended a car near mile marker 136.  That car, which was driven by Julia James, 58, of Lexington, KY, lost control and flipped while going over an embankment.  James was thrown from the car and was declared dead at the scene.  The passenger in that car, Dolores Facemire, 61, also of Lexington, KY was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center.  

The Lester’s car lost control about a mile down the road and also flipped over an embankment.  They were both killed in the accident.  The incident is still under investigation by the Beckley Detachment of the West Virginia State Police.

ORIGINAL STORY: Dispatchers in Raleigh County said three people are dead in two separate vehicle accidents on Interstate 64 near Sandstone Mountain. The accidents happened at about 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015.

Dispatchers said the two accidents happened within minutes of each other near mile marker 136.  One vehicle went over an escape ramp, the other went over a guardrail.  First responders said three people are dead and one person was airlifted.

Interstate 64 east bound near mile marker 136 is closed. The west bound lanes were closed for about an hour, as a HealthNet crew landed on the interstate. No word on what caused the accidents.
