In January 2004 that body of Jo Ann Spencer was found in McDowell County, WV.  She had bee reported missing to the Augusta County, VA Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 11, 2003 by family members.  An autopsy by the medical examiner of West Virginia determined that she was shot several times and had died from her injuries.

The investigation into her death initially pointed to her husband Charles Melvin Spencer, but the case went cold for 12 years.  The current sheriff of Augusta County, Donald Smith, appointed a dedicated investigator to the case and in recent weeks new information was gathered pointing to Charles Spencer as a suspect in his wife’s death.

On Monday, March 7, 2016, Charles Spencer was charged with First Degree Murder.  He is now being held in the Middle River Regional Jail.
