Out in Wyoming County, the Westside Renegades played host to Man on Friday night. Westside coming off a Week 2 rivalry win over Wyoming East, but the Man Hillbillies come to town 2-0 with no sign of slowing down. Westside QB Larry Cook coming off a career night against Wyoming East, but in the 1st quarter he is intercepted by Tanner Bailey. Man took a big lead for most of the game, but in the 4th quarter, Westside pulled within three points 27-24, but it wouldn’t get any better as the score remain 27-24. Westside will now take a week off before taking on the Independence Patriots on September 25th.
Wyoming East hit the road looking to pick up their first win in Nicholas County. The Grizzlies took the early 7-0 lead on a 1-yard TD run by Matt Moore. Then, later, Zach Payne would catch a touchdown pass to put Nicholas County up 14-0. The scores kept coming for the Grizzlies as they go on to win 40-0 dropping Wyoming East to an 0-3 start to their season. The Warriors will hit the road again next Friday to take on the Summers County Bobcats (2-1) in Hinton.
In Class A football in Fayette County, the Meadow Bridge Wildcats had to travel to Midland Trail. What’s interesting is these two football teams will soon become one program following the Fayette County school consolidation, but on Friday night the two teams were fighting for Fayette County bragging rights. Meadow Bridge would make the loud statement in this one blanking the Patriots 36-0. It’s the first win for Meadow Bridge in 2015, and next they face another Fayette County school – The Fayetteville Pirates. Midland Trail drops to 1-2 on the season and will take on Richwood in Week 4.
Richwood came to town Friday to take on Fayetteville for a Week 3 showdown. The Lumberjacks had a tough time containing Troy Ferrell, who ran all over Richwood in the first quarter giving his team the early lead. The Pirates go on to win by a score of 47-21 and improve to 3-0, while Richwood drops to 1-2. Fayetteville is ready to put their undefeated record on the line as they take on Meadow Bridge. Both teams enter the game with a lot of momentum.
Valley (Fayette) played host to Sherman on Friday. The Greyhounds had a lot of trouble getting things going, and couldn’t stop Bailey Kirk from Sherman. His 70-yard TD run gave the Tide a 20-12 lead and they never looked back. Sherman wins their first game of the season on the road 33-18, while Valley falls to 0-3. Next on the schedule for Valley, they take on Clay County at home.
