West Virginia officials award $2.2M in recycling grants

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia officials have given out $2.2 million in grants to help recycling efforts across the state.

Thirty five recipients in 26 counties received the grants through a West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection program. Recipients included solid waste authorities, municipalities and nonprofit groups.

Among the awards received was an $18,200 grant to the Boone County Solid Waste Authority to help pay for fuel for recycling trucks and other things. Other grant winners were Glenville State College, the Hampshire County Commission and the City of Charleston.

This is the 24th year of the grant program. Officials say the program has given more than $36 million to groups across the state since it began.
