West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine hosts first annual 5K

Lewisburg area residents laced up their sneakers Sunday morning for the WVSOM’s first annual  All for One Charity 5k run/walk.
The run was put on by the student government of the schools class of 2018 who chose to give the proceeds to North Central West Virginia Community Action, a local charity that helps individuals and families maintain social and economic stability.

Glenn Pottmeyer, the class treasurer, says of the organization, “They seemed like a great organization. One of our main goals was that we wanted to proceeds to remain local. So, we didn’t want to raise money and then have it leave the area, we wanted everything to stay here, and they fit the bill perfectly.”

The event began at 8 AM and took runners and walkers through a hilly and difficult 3 mile course around the WVSOM. Runners claimed it was a challenge, but that it is always fun to run with others and support a good cause.

The run/walk has been in the works since early summer, and planners say that it was quite a success raising over a thousand dollars in it’s inaugural year. The students say that they can only hope that number will continue to grow.

Student government officials say, “We’re hoping that it can stick around and that the student government can help fund it along with the class, and just keep the event going and getting bigger every year.”

The students also said that it’s just as good for them as it is for the charity, allowing them to get out of the classroom and in to the community.
