Back to school time is right around the corner. Getting kids ready to head back to the classroom isn’t easy or cheap. Kids need new notebooks, pencils, calculators, not to mention clothes and shoes. As a parent, affording all this can stressful, but their are resources out their to help.
We’re working for you, looking at different charities parents can turn to if they need a hand.
The Wade Center in Bluefield always holds a back to school event. This year the event is on August 4th at 5 p.m., but the center suggests you get their earlier to get in line. They will be handing out school supplies until it runs out.
If you can’t make it to Bluefield, the Heart of God Ministries Church in Beckley is handing out supplies this Saturday, August 1st, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. They will be handing out more than 600 backpacks. They will also be giving away some big door prizes and they will have food.
In Lewisburg this weekend they held their annual stuff the bus event. Stuff the bus is an event that many of us are familiar with, their often set up at Walmart in Princeton and Beckley. Kasey Carter, with Communities in Schools, explains how the items they collect will be distributed, “Well what we do is Communities and Schools Staff, after we complete the drive on Sunday, we’ll gather everything up and sort it out and we distribute it to all 13 schools in Greenbrier County.”
Lastly, mark your calendars for August 15th. Convoy of Hope is hosting an event at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. The event will provide more than $1 million dollars worth of goods and services; including free food, health services, haircuts, family portraits, job services, and a carnival.
All of these organizations are still accepting donations.
