Woman struck and killed by a train in Dunbar, WV

16th Street

 railroad crossing in 


. It’s closed at Charles and Dunbar Avenues. The railroad crossing will remain closed for several more hours. Dunbar Police say drivers can use the 10th Street Crossing.

Police are currently on scene, investigating a deadly accident between a train and a pedestrian that happened early this morning. Neighbors tell us they heard the train coming through around 

4:15 a.m.

They say it suddenly came to a screeching halt.



Police are on the scene of an accident involving a train and one person.

The call came in from the corner of 27th Street and Dunbar Avenue in Dunbar, WV.  This is next to Dunbar Middle School.

Just before 4:30 a.m., Metro 911 received a phone call of person possibly struck by a train.  A woman was killed instantly by the train. When the Dunbar police arrived on the scene it was declared a “code black”, meaning the person had passed upon their arrival.

Typically, trains in this area run slower due to the rail yards.  Witnesses described the train slamming on its breaks attempting to avoid hitting the person.
