MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – A West Virginia University student from Greenbrier County has been named the next Mountaineer mascot.

Troy Clemons was named Wednesday night at WVU’s men’s basketball game with Texas Tech in Morgantown. Clemons was selected by a committee of faculty, staff and students following a cheer-off competition held with three other finalists at a game last month.

Clemons will serve for the 2016-17 academic year. He replaces Michael Garcia, who served as the Mountaineer mascot for the past two years.

Clemons is a senior sports management major from Maxwelton.
