Skylar Eagle joined 59 News in June 2021 as a Multimedia Reporter.
Originally from Albany, New York, Skylar graduated Cum Laude on a full merit scholarship from the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College in May 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. As a Park Scholar, Skylar built her foundations in connecting community service and communications.
Before moving to West Virginia, she interned for CBS News in Los Angeles, California and covered some of 2020’s most notable events including the 92nd Academy Awards, Super Tuesday, and COVID-19. She most recently interned for WNYT NewsChannel 13 in Albany, New York. During her time at Ithaca College, she worked as an Anchor and Executive Producer for ICTV’s morning show Good Day Ithaca and as a Reporter for Newswatch, Election Center, and ICTV Reports.
As a reporter for WICB News, The Ithacan, and ICTV, Skylar won multiple awards including New York State Broadcasters Association Awards for Outstanding Election Coverage, Outstanding Evening Newscast and Outstanding Morning Newscast. As a reporter for WRFI Community Radio, she received an NYSBA award for Outstanding Public Affairs Series in a Small Market for “The Loneliness Project.” She also received the Society of Professional Journalists Region 1 Mark of Excellence Award for Online In-Depth Reporting for “Power Struggle: Anticipating Attacks on the Electric Grid” with the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, d.c.
In her spare time, Skylar enjoys spending time with her friends, playing guitar, hiking, and making spotify playlists.
