On the Road with Regina Gonzalez: Couple’s Getaway

Digital Desk

While many couples like to go out to dinner and get each other gifts or flowers for Valentine’s Day, a trip to the woods can be quite romantic at places like Country Road Cabins in Hico.

In the peaceful forests of Fayette County, 21 different cabins, yurts and tree houses are designed to be comfy and cozy for guests who want a little taste of relaxation in the Mountain State.

The property is run and maintained by the lovely Jennifer and Paul Breuer, who purchased the 108 acres in 1996 after seeing a need for lodging in the area

“We needed family lodging and vacations,” Paul said. “More vacations for tourism in West Virginia.”

Walking into these cabins will make couples feel at home with a full living room, kitchen, king-size beds, full bathrooms, and hot tub on every terrace looking over the trees.

While some of these cabins can hold a minimum of 14 people, a few particular ones are ready for a couple’s retreat.

Red heart-shaped jacuzzi tubs can be seen in several cabins called the “Love Shack,” “Sugar Shack,” and  “The Hideaway,” to name a few. Couples can feel the love as soon as they walk in, with heart-shaped towels surrounding the tub, flowers surrounding the room, and a little champagne bottle of bubbles to make it as foamy as they prefer.

It doesn’t stop at the heart shaped bubble bath, the Bruer’s bring in a local florist to make a bed of roses for couples if they choose, and make sure champagne is popping and dinner is served.

“We can package steak dinners, breakfast for two, of course, complimentary champagne or sparkling cider with any stay, ” Jennifer said. “So everyday is Valentine’s Day!”

With local restaurants, like Pies and Pints and Cathedral Cafe, and a number of outdoor activities only a hike or car ride away, Country Roads Cabins makes the perfect mountain getaway.
