Patriots putting in hard work preparing for upcoming season

High School Sports

COAL CITY,WV (WVNS)– Independence High School football started their 2019 season with their first practice two weeks ago. After the Patriots ended their 2018 season with a 6-4 record they are ready to kick it into gear.

Head Coach John Lilly said having a lot of returners makes practice run smooth.

“We’ve got a lot of guys back on the team this year so that’s made practice go a little smoother,” Lilly said. “Any time you have your starting quarter back back you’re a little bit ahead of the game. As far as knowing the plays and knowing the system and that kind of thing, so that part of it has been pretty smooth. We’re still a work in progress, we’re still not where we need to be and we’re going to be striving to get there and the first thing is to get into shape.”

Independence high school will be hosting Midland Trail for their first home game on Friday August 30.
