Police Search for Suspect After Charleston Shooting

Hospital personnel say the CAMC Emergency Room was on lockdown following a shooting in Charleston Wednesday night. 

It has since reopened.

According to the Charleston Police Department, a shooting occurred in an alley near the 500 block of Leon Sullivan Way in Charleston on Wednesday, October 31st, 2018 shortly before 10 PM.

Police say the victim, Chris Zackoski, 33, who is homeless, reported that the suspect, a black man he identified only as “Zay” shot him over a $40 meth debt. Police say the victim was not fully cooperative with detectives and provided limited information.

The victim sustained one gunshot wound to his back near his right kidney. He was transported to CAMC General where as of last night he was in stable condition.

Police say the suspect was described as a black man with glasses wearing khaki pants and either a black or red hooded sweatshirt.

At this time, no arrests have been made.
