The 13th annual Sweet Treats event returned to Beckley on Saturday, May 11. Many people braved the rainy weather to taste many treats and enjoy live music, while learning the importance of emergency preparedness.
All the money raised by sweet treats will go towards the United Way of Southern West Virginia. Community Impact Coordinator Christina Cowley said this money will go to countless operations within the organization.
“Everything that we do,” Cowley said. “From supporting our 44 nonprofit agencies in our seven counties to our 211-information hotline to our equal footing shoe fund. That money supports all of our programs.”
Tasters were also able to vote on their favorite sweet treats. Sweet Treats organizer Jill Moorefield said the first-place winner was Tamarack, followed by JanCare Ambulance. The Dish Café rounded out in third place.
