3 injured in officer-involved crash

BECKLEY, W. VA. (WVNS) — An officer-involved crash that happened early Saturday morning is under investigation.

Sgt. Bailey with the Beckley Police Department tells 59 News the crash happened at the intersection of Robert C. Byrd Drive and Third Avenue just after midnight. He said it started when an officer pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation.  The driver of that vehicle took off and a pursuit started. 

Bailey said another officer was in the area and was on his way to assist with the pursuit when he got into a wreck. The officer and 2 passengers of the vehicle involved in the crash reportedly had minor injuries. All 3 taken to a local hospital for treatment. No fatalities were reported in the accident. 

West Virginia State Police and Raleigh County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the accident and are investigating. 

The driver of the vehicle who started the pursuit has been arrested. Their name and charges have not been released at this time but police confirm they are being held in the Southern Regional Jail.
