BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California visited WVU Tech’s campus for a panel discussion on “Moving West Virginia Forward.”on April 23, 2018.  The congressman specifically focused on “Connecting Silicon Valley to Appalachia,” which was about bringing technology and engineering jobs to the region.  With WVU Tech having such a strong program, that dream could be a reality.

“Silicon Valley, a lot of tech companies, need engineers,” Khanna said.  “We have a shortage of engineers. The great thing, now, is you can stay in your community and work in many of these jobs. I wouldn’t want to leave this place either, if I was living here.”

Khanna says more federal funding towards engineering programs and hiring local jobs that work remotely can bring jobs to the region.
