Concord University Beckley will be hosting the yearly regional RESA Social Studies Fair on March 3, 2018 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.   Coinciding with the fair, Concord will team up with Bluefield State College and New River Community and Technical College to host a Social Studies Family Fun Day at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center on University Drive in Beaver.

The Fun Day will provide families with a way to constructively spend their time while waiting on their projects to be judged.   This will include fun instructional games relating to social studies, professional and college exploration, and valuable family bonding time.

Concord University’s Geography Department will also be presenting a life-size map of West Virginia that will allow students to “walk across the state” and learn constructive information about different aspects of West Virginia.   On top of this, there will be Appalachian folk dance lessons and other activities from the partners at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center.

Dr. Susan Williams, Director of Concord University Beckley, says “Concord University and its partners are committed to helping our youth understand how their projects and interests can turn into academic studies and professional careers.   We love working with such enthusiastic school children!”

The event will be open and free for all students (entering the fair or not).   All of the activities are appropriate for all ages.
