BECKLEY, W. Va. (WVNS) —  As the clocks spring forward this weekend, firefighters remind you to check the batteries in your smoke detector.

Firefighters urge everyone to change your batteries every 6 months.

Lieutenant Chris Graham with the Beckley Fire Department reminded  the community of the importance of having smoke alarms, as they can save your life.

“When people have detectors that work, they get out of the house quicker, they call us immediately and we get there, hopefully we can save their property,” said Graham

Firefighters will also install smoke detectors for the elderly or disabled living in Beckley city limits for free.
