On June 17, 2018, the Wildwood House Museum hosted another “History Alive!” presentation, featuring Ostenaco, who was brought to life by Doug Wood of Hurricane.
Ostenaco was an important Cherokee ally of Virginia military leaders during the French and Indian War.
His relationships with them contributed to the expansion of English-speaking peoples into present-day West Virginia.
For Raleigh County Historical Society president Tom Sopher, it is a rare opportunity for those curious to take a step back in time.
“We’re all interested in different kinds of history, so this brought out a different group of people because they might be Indian-related or Cherokees or maybe they’re curious about the late 1700’s.”
All “History Alive!” programs are free and open to the public.
