For those on the hunt for a job, the Department of Health and Human Resources at Jackie Withrow Hospital looks to fill a number of positions.
Angela Booker, CEO of Jackie Withrow, said they experience a short-staffing problem throughout all the facilities in Southern West Virginia, particularly with nurses. That is why the state hospital held a job fair for the community on Wednesday.
Prospective employees applied and interviewed on-site for jobs like nursing, housekeeping, food service, maintenance and more.
Booker said in addition to state benefits that come with working for a DHHR facility, working at a long-term care facility like Jackie Withrow can be a fulfilling career.
“We have long-term care patients or residents and so those individuals become our family,” Booker said. “In the hospitals you may have the turn over, you have somebody in for two or three days and then they’re gone. Here we have the opportunity to develop a relationship with our patients.”
Booker said they had an exceptional turnout at the fair and they look forward to training new employees.
If yanyone missed the fair Wednesday, DHHR has two more coming up: one on October 23 in Mercer County and another on October 24 in McDowell County. Visit WWW.GOVERNMENTJOBS.COM/CAREERS/WV for direct access to state job opportunities.
