UPDATED STORY 1/4/2019 at 3:30 p.m. The man who was driving the garbage truck in a fatal accident on Wednesday has turned himself in. Jacob Wayne Johnson, 40, of Oak Hill, WV was charged with Negligent Homicide.
Investigators said the charge against Johnson stems from driving with the forks of the garbage truck down and failing to yield the right of way. U.S. Marine Gunnery Sergeant Terrance Gober, II was killed in the accident.
Johnson was arraigned and released on a personal recognizance bond. His bail was set at $100,000.
UPDATED STORY 1/3/2019 at 8:20 a.m. Police have released the name of a man who was killed in a crash along North Eisenhower Drive in Beckley.
Police confirm 35-year-old Terrance A. Gober II was killed. Terrance is a Marine and worked as a recruiter for the Marine Corps in Beckley.
Gober has worked with members of the 59 News team in years past to collect toys for Toys for Tots of Southern West Virginia.
ORIGINAL STORY (1/2/2019) A person was killed in an early morning crash that involved a garbage truck and a Jeep Wrangler. The accident happened at around 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019 along the 1300 block of North Eisenhower Drive.
The Jeep was traveling north along Eisenhower Drive when the accident happened. Investigators said the garbage truck was turning into the Galleria Place when it hit the Jeep with the forks.
According to Beckley Police, the driver of the Jeep was a 35-year-old white man from Kansas. He was killed in the accident. His name has not been released at this time.
Beckley Police, the Beckley Fire Department and Jan Care Ambulance responded to the scene. The accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed in the case at this time.
