Local firefighters are going above the call of duty to help those devastated by Hurricane Florence. Firefighters with the Mount Hope Fire Department left last Wednesday, September 12, to travel to South Carolina.

Shane Wheeler is the Fire Chief for Mount Hope Fire Department. He said they wanted to help with hurricane relief after Florence left a path of destruction. He also explained they are seeing a lot of damage so far.

“A lot of trees that have been down. A lot of clean up efforts going on right now with regards to you know the flood damage that’s in the area we are in,” Wheeler said.

Wheeler said this is the least they could do after receiving help from others when they need it. He also said they will be down there until they are released to leave.
