Construction will start in Downtown Beckley this summer.

Known to many in Beckley as, “The Hole,” the site finally has plans for the future. This area is owned by the city and officials are planning to make it a recreation area for the people of Beckley.

Mayor of Beckley, Rob Rappold, said there will be a multi-purpose center and a plaza in that area for people to enjoy.

“A nice plaza which will take up about two-thirds of the space and about one-third of the space on the west end will be, what we call, a multipurpose building,” Rappold said.

Officials are hoping project is finished by October, in time for the Chili Festival and WVU Tech’s Homecoming.
