Nearly 1,000 Appalachian Power customers were without electricity on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018. According to AEP’s outage map, as of 10:30 a.m. there were 858 households in the dark. Those are all in the Coal City area.
As a result of the outages, Raleigh County announced the early dismissal of three schools. Independence High School and Independence Middle School are dismissing at 11:15 a.m. Coal City Elementary School will be dismissing at 12:15 p.m.
There is no word on what may have caused the outage. There are also 541 AEP customers in Mercer County who are without power.
