Beckley residents get to enjoy the spring weather and the Rhododendron Festival this May. The festival was originally started in the 1990s as a way to get people out of the house with many festivities. These festivities include a sweet treats activity, a coloring contest, and much more for people in the area.
Jill Moorefield, Director of Beckley Events, said she looks forward to putting away winter clothes and gearing up for this festival every year.
“Well we just think it’s beautiful. It encourages people to get out, walk around outside, and get out in the community and see the beautiful rhododendron plant which is the state flower and tie all the different activities together,” Moorefield said.
The Sweet Treats event kicks off Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza.
