UPDATE: Independence High School dismissing early after reported fire

SOPHIA, W. Va. (WVNS) — Independence High School is dismissing early Monday morning after a reported fire. 

According to Bobby Palmer with the WV State Fire Marshals Office tells 59 News no injuries were reported and they are now in the process of dismissing students. 

Palmer said the fire started in the kitchen and was put out quickly.

SOPHIA, W. Va. (WVNS) — Crews are responding to a reported fire alarm at Independence High School, according to dispatchers.

Dispatchers tell 59 News the call came in around 10:30 am on Monday. Officials said Sophia City, Sophia Area and Coal City Volunteer Firefighters responded to the scene. 

Raleigh County Schools announced online Independence High School will be dismissing early at 11:30 am on Monday but did not state a reason as to why. Stay with 59 News for the latest information.
