UPDATE: Derrick Crouse found guilty in murder trial

FAYETTEVILLE, WV. (WVNS) - 11:41 a.m. July, 11, 2018 UPDATE:  The murder trial for Derrick Crouse came to a close on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.  At around 11:30 a.m. the jury returned a guilty verdict against Crouse on the charge of first degree murder. 

The jury is set to return at around 1 p.m. to decide whether to grant Crouse mercy in his sentencing.

ORIGINAL STORY: A trial is continuing for a man accused of murdering a woman at her home during a home invasion. 

It's day two in Derrick Crouse's trial in Fayette County and several witnesses are being called to the stand to testify.

Crouse was arrested on April 18, 2017, after deputies said he and another man wearing ski masks forced their way into a home. One of the men shot 48-year-old Janet Garrett in the chest with a handgun. Both men ran from the home. Both men were later found and arrested.
