AAA offers tips to destress during holiday travel frenzy

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - It's the most wonderful time of the year, but it's the busiest time for travel. AAA projects more than 100 million Americans will travel up until the new year.

AAA Beckley Retail Manager, Autumn Bess, said this can cause many to become stressed due to crowded highways, airports and public transit.

"We have more people traveling than ever recorded, you are going to run into some issues," Bess said. "You just have to be prepared because being frustrated is just not going to help the situation.:"

Whether it's traffic and bad weather on the road - or a flight being canceled as you're sitting in the terminal, it's bound to cause frustration for some. A bad experience at an airport even forced traveler Joseph Brown to have to make other plans.

"We got to the airport and our flight was delayed to the point where we would miss our connections so we decided to drive," Brown laughed.

While Brown said he keeps his road rage minimal, some drivers don't.  For that, AAA is offering tips to maintain proper travel etiquette, which Bess said starts before you even start driving,

"Make sure your gas tank is full, make sure you checked your tire pressure make sure that your battery has been tested," Bess said. " The worst thing that can happen is getting stranded."

After your journey begins you may want to consider making a good playlist to listen to, carrying plenty of snacks and drinks and planning breaks along the way. While the stress of getting to your destination may seem overwhelming, Brown said family is that light at the end of the tunnel.

"I have patience for all this," Brown said. "Going to see my loved ones is more important than all this other stuff."
