A blueberry farm: lifelong dream for owner

News

RENICK, WV (WVNS) — July is national blueberry month! For Max Robinson, owning a blueberry farm has been a lifelong dream.

“I knew I wanted to do this, long before we started this,” Robinson said.

Max and his wife started planting blueberries 25 years ago. It wasn’t easy at first, but they knew it would be worth it.

“So we bought the place, and we actually planted the berries long before we moved into the house. The house needed a lot of work. We planted them, and I worked for 12 years at another job, waiting for them to get big enough to be picked,” he said.

For Max and his wife Annie, this farm is their livelihood. They live on this farm and have raised their kids here. It’s a year round job to maintain the farm, from planting the berries, pruning them, and setting up the nets around them to keep the birds away. All of this maintenance is for a short picking time, only from June to July where the blueberries are ripe enough.

If you want to pick some blueberries, you will get a bucket at the gate to tie around your waist and off you go to pick some fresh fruit. White Oak Farm is located in Renick, WV.
