The craft beer business is hopping in Southern West Virginia.

“I’ve definitely seen the industry kind of blossom,” Co-owner of Bridge Brew Works in Fayetteville, Nathan Herrold. said.

Microbreweries, serving delicately crafted brews are popping up throughout the southern part of the Mountain State. Herrold told 59 News, the industry has quadrupled since he started.

“In 2010, there were 1,200 breweries and now there’s close to 7,000 breweries in the country,” Herrold said.

Brewing experts are creating their own trends that are attracting not only beer enthusiasts, but their money too. According to the Brewers Association, overall beer sales were down by 1-percent in 2017, but craft beer sales grew by almost 13-percent.

As beer sales continue to grow across the country, they’re growing right here at home. So far, there are seven breweries in Southern West Virginia.

“There were only a handful of breweries in the state, so it’s been fun and exciting to see the industry just in West Virginia grow,” Herrold said.

The growth isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Entrepreneurs are foaming at the chance to hop on board this economic engine, as brewers told us they’re expecting the industry to double within the coming years.

“We saw it a long time ago in the wine industry, where people were really getting into wine, and now the same thing is happening with beer.” Co-founder of Weathered Ground Brewery in Ghent, Sam Fonda, said.

Fonda is still growing his brewing business . He told 59 News that the industry is more than just drinking a cold one.

“People like to pair it with food, and really like to dive in and dissect what they’re tasting,” Fonda said.

Ales, Lagers, Stouts, IPA’s; Herrold said all the options offered are the best part of drinking craft beer.

“You’re looking at a culture, an industry that has more than 300 recognized styles of beer.” Herrold explained.

Styles of beer you can’t find anywhere else.

“The more breweries the better, the more breweries that are making good beer, the better,” Fonda said.
