West Virginia State Police recently executed a search warrant on a large farm in Taylor County after complaints of animal neglect.
While executing the search warrant, on April 20, on a 687 acre property in the Thornton area, state troopers found several neglected horses and cows and the carcasses of some dead animals, according to a state police spokesperson.
Two days later, three different animal rescue groups arrived and removed 20 neglected horses, troopers said. A cow that could not stand, due to severe neglect, had to be put down by a veterinarian, according to state police.
An investigation is ongoing and charges against the owner are pending, state police said.
