DANIELS, WV (WVNS) — Gilbert “Pappy” Worrell has been working at the Cornerstone IGA in Daniels for almost 11 years. Despite the labor, Pappy said IGA has become a second home to him over the years.
“It’s a nice store and the people are nice here, so I’ve got good people to work for,” Pappy said.
All of his dedication and hard labor over the years finally paid off, and on a national level. Store Manager, Jackie Phillips, said this is the first ever IGA National Employee of the Month. He said it is no surprise that Pappy won.
“He’s an exceptional person, he is one of the first to jump in line for any department wherever he’s needed, he’s always early, he’s a wonderful gentleman,” Phillips said.
Pappy was presented this award at work on Tuesday, September, 24, 2019 where employees surprised him. Pappy said he had no idea he would wind up being the winner of an award for which nearly 4,000 stores were competing.
“Well awesome, you feel wonderful to be employee of the month for the nation. I really appreciate it,” Pappy said.
