CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Officers with the Charleston Police Department had a new, temporary member on the force Saturday night.

According to a Facebook post from Charleston Police Department Community Services, Ptlm. Reed, with the Charleston Police Department, responded to that car accident.

Officers said a young, female driver was involved in the crash along the interstate.  She wasn’t alone in the car, though.  In the passenger seat sat her beloved dog, Kobe.

“That driver received some injuries was transported to a local hospital without her dog.  With no Animal Control Officers on duty and dangerous conditions on the interstate, Ptlm. Reed had very few options for Kobe,” the post stated.

The driver’s parents were made aware of the situation, officers said, and they began the two-hour drive to Charleston from their home in Greenbrier County.

Ptlm. Reed called Sgt. Sharp and asked if he could care for Kobe until the driver’s parents arrived.

The request was granted.

The Facebook post went on the say that, “Reed transported Kobe to CPD roll call where Kobe entertained other policeman for a while.  The family later responded and almost broke down in tears in response to Ptlm . Reed’s kindness in watching over Kobe and making this bad situation a little better.”
