Early voting will take place for Mercer County school levy

PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) — A community’s vote will directly affect student’s extracurricular activities.

Mercer County voters will choose whether to continue a five year excess levy for the school system. This levy includes dollars for resource officers, safety techniques, and extracurricular activities. Early voting will take place Friday, October 18, for the November 2 special election.

Mercer County Superintendent, Deborah Akers, said this levy directly affects students.

“We would have to go back into our budget, and for next year we would have to look at operating with 11 million dollars less than what we’re operating with this year and that’s a large cut of the budget,” Akers said.

This levy is already in place, but has to renewed and voted on every five years.
