WBOY received several messages Thursday morning from concerned parents of students at Lincoln High School in Shinnston.
Their concerns rose from a book they said was written by a Lincoln High School teacher.
Parents said the book contains first names of current students and descriptions of them, some of which reference sexual situations. The story is set in Shinnston. The last names of the students were changed, parents believe, and the name of the school was changed to Thomas Jefferson High. The book, which was released last week, was available on Amazon.com. The book has since been removed from Amazon.com.
12 News reached out to Harrison County School Superintendent Dr. Mark Manchin about the situation. He said the book was also brought to his attention on Thursday morning, that they have taken the appropriate steps and the teacher has been suspended indefinitely.
Dr. Manchin said the actions taken to remove the teacher are to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.
Dr. Manchin confirmed that the author of the book is a teacher at Lincoln High School.
“I have read excerpts. I am in the process of reading some of the excerpts, and obviously when you start getting in the private lives of students and not even changing their names. This was an expose, appears to be an expose,” said Dr. Manchin.
Dr. Manchin said the issue presented is the invasion of students privacy and the school board is taking the appropriate steps to determine what policies have been violated.
