Gary “Coach” Ray wins race for Fayette County BOE

Leading with more than 4,000 votes, Gary “Coach” Ray, of the Plateau District, won a spot on the nonpartisan Fayette County Board of Education in the May 8 Primary Election.

After 45 years in the classroom, Ray is a retired educator who has never been involved in politics.

He told 59 News he’s been wanting to make a difference and has big plans for what he will do for the education system in Fayette County. Ray also said he never thought he’d be in this position but it sure does feel good.

“It’s always good to win, I’ve either coached or taught or been an athletic director and a administrator and I’ve always never liked to lose,” Ray said.

Ray told 59 News he couldn’t’t have done it without the community and is excited to play a big part in Fayette County schools.
