Heroin found in child neglect investigation


Caleb Nettles is charged with Child Neglect and Possession of Heroin and Methamphetamine

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Deputies were called to a home on Hubbard Street on Saturday, June 29, 2019 after a one-year-old child was found unsupervised. Caleb Nettles, 28, of Sprague, WV is charged with child neglect, and two counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver.

The initial call was made by the child’s mother. She told deputies she went by the home after reports that Nettles, who is the child’s father, had left the child unattended twice before.

When deputies arrived on the scene they found Mr. Nettles unconscious in his home. Investigators attempted to wake him from the doorway, and went inside to check on him.

After he was revived, deputies searched Nettles and found he had a bag of heroin on him. They also found methamphetamine and drug scales. Deputies said Nettles admitted to taking heroin before they arrived.

Nettles is being held in the Southern Regional Jail.. His bond is set at $50,000.
