An organization working to make its community a better place is looking for more locals to get involved.

Leadership Beckley is a program sponsored by the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce. The program helps locals develop leadership skills, so they take on responsibilities that will help make Beckley a better place.

Kelly Elkins is on the organizing committee and said they hold educational sessions on specific topics including working with non-profits, healthcare ,and local government.

“If you’re interested in running for city council, if you want to serve on a board like the United Way or Women’s Resource Center or Humane Society, the opportunities are there,” Elkins explained. “They’re giving you that information to take part in those opportunities.”

Elkins said they meet once a month at the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce and sessions are held in the Fall.
