UPDATE: May, 18, 2021 2:45 p.m. — The name of the person who died in a structure fire on Tuesday in Monroe County was released.
Family members of the victim told 59News that Clyde Hylton, 86, lost his life in the early morning fire in Union, WV. They said his wife, Mary, went to the hospital from injuries from the fire.
Family members said the cause of the fire was a propane tank that exploded in the house. Mary got out of the home, but wasn’t able to wake her husband on the second floor.

UNION, WV (WVNS) — An early morning structure fire in Monroe County claimed the life of one person.
Monroe County dispatchers said the call came in at 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2021 for a structure fire at Pete Lynch Road in Union. According to Sheriff Jeff Jones, one person was killed in the fire. Officers with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed they are investigating.
Further details, including the cause of the fire and the victim’s identity, are all unknown at this time.
