WELCH, WV (WVNS) — Mount View High School’s football field became a place where many memories were created. Tammy Warner and Tim Swartz graduated from the high school in the ’80s and came back to relive some of the memories they created.

“Band. I just went up there and took pictures of that. It just brings tears to my eyes really,” Tammy said.

“All the good times with friends, baseball, football, basketball. It was great times,” Tim said.

People of all ages put on their Golden Knights gear to sit in the stands and cheer on the team Friday, October 18, for the last home game of the season. But it was not a typical night for football. Coach Maurice Gravely said this will be the last time the Golden Knights play on that field.

“I wish I was playing this game. This is the kind of game I love. I’ve been fortunate to travel across the country and see a lot of big games on the highest level. This is big right here. This is Texas football to me,” Coach Gravely said.

It is the end of an era, but cheer coach Cathy Jack said now it is time to get excited for something new: a new stadium.

“We have waited 42 years for this new stadium,” Cathy said.

This new football field is going in right by the high school. It will be the perfect opportunity for future generations to create memories that will last their lifetime. Athletic Director Larry Barber said there are big plans for this field.

“It’s going to be beautiful. It’s supposedly state of the art turf. I think the turf may be a little higher than normal turf. But it’s going to bode well with this community because we’ve got a lot of kids that deserve something like this,” Barber said.

The new field should be completed by next football season.
