TAZEWELL, VA (WVNS) — A call to the Tannersville area of Tazewell County leads to the discovery of explosives.  On March 3, 2018, Deputies were alerted to a man who was acting erratically.  When they arrived on the scene, they were able to take Louis MacDowell into custody.  That is when they found he had narcotics in his possession.

Deputies were able to get a search warrant for Mr. MacDowell’s house to look for more drugs.  They were also informed there might be explosives inside the home.

The Virginia State Police Bomb Squad and Tactical teams responded to the home along with members of the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office.  Inside they found drug paraphernalia along with numerous firearms and bomb making materials.

The bomb squad was able to safely detonate some devices on the scene.  They also recovered evidence that Mr. MacDowell was making bombs.

MacDowell is being evaluated by health officials in a facility outside of the area.  Deputies said charges will be filed when he returns to Tazewell County.  The investigation into the case is still open.
