UPDATE: Body found in Dry Fork River identified as missing Hartwell woman

CANEBRAKE, WV (WVNS) — 4/21/2020 12:00 p.m. UPDATE: The identity of the body found Saturday in the Dry Fork River in McDowell County is released.

Deputies confirmed the body is of Sandra Kay McReynolds, 69, of Hartwell. She was reported missing the day before at around 4 p.m. Her body was found the day after in the Dry Fork Driver near Canebrake at about noon.

Further details are unknown, as the investigation is still ongoing.

MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — 4/19/2020 2:10 p.m. UPDATE: The McDowell County Sheriff’s Department has released new details regarding a body found on Saturday, April 18, 2020.

Sheriff James Muncy said deputies responded to a missing persons complaint in Hartwell, WV at around 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020. Deputies began their search and requested the assistance of a K9 out of Buchannon County Va.

Due to it getting dark on the 17th, the search began again on the morning of Saturday, April 18th. The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office along with West Virginia State Police, West Virginia DNR, Berwind and War Fire Departments assisted in the search.

Around noon, a body was found in the Dry Fork River. The body was transported to the West Virginia Medical Examiners office in Charleston. This investigation is still on going.
