CLARKSBURG, WV (WBOY) – Police have released the name of the man who was arrested after attempting to abduct a 16-year-old girl from Kroger in downtown Clarksburg Wednesday afternoon.

Juan Carlos DeLeon Zanas, 46, of Clarksburg, allegedly attempted to get the girl into his van, according to the Clarksburg Police Department. A Kroger employee told police that multiple bystanders stopped him from doing so.

Zanas sped through the parking lot to get away, hit multiple cars and began driving toward Adamston on West Pike Street, police said. Police said Zanas, then, crashed into a telephone pole across from Koupal Towers and was taken into custody.

Zanas is charged with fleeing with reckless indifference. Police said other charges against Zanas are pending.
