CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – An unattended package containing used needles was discovered on the sidewalk in front of the United Bank on Virginia Street East in Charleston.

Charleston Police received a call that a suspicious man placed a suspicious duffel bag underneath a bench and then immediately left the area.

The Charleston Police Department, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, and the bomb squad all responded to the scene.

Police were able to determine that there were no explosives in the bag, but police did find multiple hypodermic needles, some of which were used.

CPD tells us that they found the ‘suspicious’ man. He told police he hid the bag because he had to go into the Federal building and needles are not allowed inside the building. Police are unsure if any charges will be pressed at this time.

Charleston Police say that there is no threat, no bomb, just some “dirty hypodermic needles.”
