New mayor talks goals for Welch

Welch, WV (WVNS) – A new mayor begins his term in Welch, McDowell County. Harold McBride began his term on September 3, 2019.

The former McDowell County Commissioner was appointed after former Mayor, Reba Honaker, passed away in May, 2019. McBride said he plans to revitalize the city by fixing up Main Street and bringing in business.

“You have to have people, so we’re hoping to encourage that, open up places, get more buildings built,” said McBride. “We’re going to try to get some investors to do some townhouses. The folks who work at the federal prison would love to live here if we get some places built.”

McBride said his ultimate goal is to bring more people to the area.
