HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) — Thursday morning, just after 1:30 a.m., Huntington had its 21st homicide of 2017.
Police said the shooting happened inside the 800 block of 25th Street, which is near the intersection of 9th Avenue. The male victim was never transported to the hospital and died inside. Police do not have a suspect at this time.
The numbers are staggering this week. Five shootings have resulted in six people shot and three of those are now dead. Overnight Thursday, three people were shot within three hours.
Huntington now has the third highest murder rate, per capita, with St. Louis and Baltimore taking the first and second place on that list. Below Huntington, on the list, are Cleveland and New Orleans at fourth and fifth place.
