CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Charleston Police are increasing their presence after they say uncapped needles and bodily fluids were found in the Charleston Town Center.

Caleb Coffman, of Cross Lanes, was in the Town Center Mall food court with his girlfriend on Sunday. Before they headed out, he walked into the restroom. That’s when he found the uncapped needles.

Coffman said, “It’s not just in the back alleys, it’s not just in the basements of a broken down house. This was in the food court of the Charleston Town Center Mall.

When asked about the incident, the Charleston Town Center released the following statement:

Security is our top priority at Charleston Town Center. Mall  restrooms are inspected and professionally cleaned every 30-minutes of each day. Once the incident was discovered by housekeeping, swift action was taken by mall security and the Charleston Police Department, and the rest room was immediately cleaned.

Charleston Police Department says that because of this incident, they will be increasing their patrols of the mall.

Reporter Jessie Shafer spoke to Coffman and Charleston Police, and she will have a full report on 13 News at 7.
